New Female Condom Has Ring, Uses Beyonce Song in Ad Campaign

* Chicago - Beyonce may not know it, but her song “ Put a ring on it ” is now the tagline for a new public awareness campaign for female condoms.

Not the ones that flopped in the early 90s, but.a new and improved ringed version recently approved by the Food & Drug Administration.

“It’s softer, it’s more affordable it’s something women feel more comfortable using," an official said.

The hope is that once women hear about the improved device they'll give it a second chance -- or maybe even a first.

It could be a tough sell.

So to help convince women to try it, members of the Chicago Female Condom Campaign will be teaching health professionals how to use the device so they can educate their at-risk patients. The instruction includes an anatomically correct model of the female pelvic area.

Visit ringonit.org for a female condom demonstration.

HIV infection rates are soaring Illinois, especially among African American women. They comprise just 13 percent of the state's population, but account for 54 percent of its total HIV infections.
