Pranksters put up the spoof notice on a busy road near the city of Gloucester, southwestern England, The Sun reported.
The official-looking sign was pointing towards Barrow Wake - a scenic viewpoint also famed for "dogging," a slang term used to describe people gathered for outdoor exhibitionism and sex.
Naked men are often seen in the area and used condoms are scattered around the beauty spot, which is popular with walkers and tourists.
One of the residents who ripped the sign down said the site's reputation made it a "no-go" zone for locals.
"The reputation of this area does tend to make the lives of local residents impossible," he said.
"The viewpoint itself is one of the best in the area, giving fantastic views across Gloucestershire.
"But if you park there you get accosted by people after 'stranger sex,' I believe the terminology is.
"It has become a no-go area for residents."
Inspector Phil Offord, of Gloucestershire Police, said that officers were taking steps to clamp down on "dogging" in the area.
He said: "One of the key elements of the operation is to encourage local residents to report any incidents in the area.
"Our priority is to ensure that the area remains safe and beautiful for all those that live, work and visit here.
"We would like to encourage people to talk to the local policing team about any concerns they have for the area and also to report any illegal or suspicious activity so that appropriate action can be taken."
