Sex and the City designer 'genius'

Cynthia Nixon says Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field is a "genius".

The actress played lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the American series, and recently reprised her role for the show's second big screen adaptation. Sex and the City is famous for the outfits Cynthia and her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis wear, and Cynthia admits donning designer dresses is a treat.

"There are racks and racks and racks of clothes and jewellery and shoes and sunglasses and hats and scarves, it's just crazy," she explained. "I'm not a fashion girl but when you're in the presence of Patricia Field you're in the presence of genius and I appreciate genius in all its forms, even though clothes aren't really my thing."

Cynthia can usually be found wearing T-shirts and jeans when she isn't working. She admits being overwhelmed by some of the more fashion-forward pieces she had to don for the movie, although she knows she can always ask to have an outfit changed if she is really uncomfortable.

"We have fittings for many, many hours so in the fitting if you're not feeling it you say," she explained. "Either, 'I'm not feeling it,' Or, 'I love it but I have to maintain some level of reality.'"
