First Cannes Film Festival glam, now for Sex and the City glitz

Us Brits are an easily pleased lot - we might be in the middle of the worst recession in 20 years and have less disposable income than we've ever had - but when the sun shines we're on top of the world.

I loved the heatwave over the weekend - everywhere I looked there were shorts, shoulders and big smiles on show (and that was just the boys!).

Things were even hotter across the Channel at the Cannes Film Festival where Brit actresses Emily Blunt, Kate Beckinsale and Kristin Scott Thomas did us proud on the red carpet.

Apparently, designers keen to get their frocks publicity hired suites in hotels to lure the leading ladies to wear their clothes.

Once a dress has been worn by a star, it's usually never worn again - after all, who'd pay £5K for a second-hand frock, even if it's been on J-Lo's beautiful back?

And when it comes to drop-dead glamour, no-one does it better than La Lopez.

Jen was in Cannes to promote her movie with her two-year-old twins in tow, juggling life as a working mum. Although, I still have trouble picturing her elbow-deep in nappies, don't you?

When it comes to red-carpet style, one lady who never puts a Jimmy-Choo-clad foot wrong is Sarah Jessica Parker, who's promoting the Sex And The City 2 movie and I can't wait to see it.

At the premiere for the first movie in London I arrived to find rapper Nelly and his entourage in our seats and unwilling to budge, so we were ushered to seats in the front row.

It was only at the end of the movie that we stood up to leave and discovered SJP, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis at the other end of the row.

Usually, the stars of the show are halfway to Nobu when the lights go down!

For this movie it's rumoured the film's stylist Patricia Field spent nearly £7million on the girls' wardrobes - and they got to keep the gear! I can't wait to check those outfits out on Friday when the film hits the big screen.

On the home front, I can't believe my baby Amber is a year old this weekend.

I'm hoping the weather lasts as I've got a garden party planned with paddling pools and party games.

Phoebe (who's been helping decorate the cake) was disappointed at the weekend after she wrenched her neck on a climbing frame and had to miss her daddy DJ-ing at Radio 1's Big Weekend.

She really wanted to see her favourites JLS. Top of my list would have been Alicia Keys, who Vernon enjoyed watching from the wings with Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton.

And, finally, as a patron of Great Ormond Street Hospital, I'm getting behind some of the biggest names in hairdressing who have set up Hair Raising - a scheme to raise funds for it.

On Sunday June 27 and Sunday July 4 you can get a half-price hair cut at top salons owned by the likes of John Frieda, Nicky Clarke and Andrew Barton, with proceeds going to fund new operating theatres. I can't think of a better reason to get a new do. Visit www.gosh.org/hair-raising for details.
