CHANDIGARH: In a state grappling with poor sex ratio and growing armies of bride-hunting bachelors, the health authorities suffered yet another embarrassment when the Fatehabad police picked up a village health worker and her mother from Bhuna subdivision of the district for running a foeticide racket.
They are now looking for their accomplice, a registered medical practitioner (RMP) who used to refer patients to the accused's clinic.
The women — identified as Gurpreet Kaur alias Suman and her mother Jaswant Kaur — were arrested during a joint raid of police and health officials on Tuesday. The racket, apparently, had been going on for the past over three years.
However, the district authorities are now in hot pursuit of the duo's cronies, including the medical practitioner who directed his patients to Gurpreet for termination of pregnancies after sex determination tests.
